What is the purpose of DTG?
The process begins with the dtf printer inserting a transparent PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film into its trays, and printing a mirrored version of the final print that needs to appear on the fabric. A special type of water-based pigment ink is then printed over the white layer, followed by a hot-melt powder that is subsequently spread uniformly on the print via an automatic powder shaker or manually.
Once the print is complete, the heat press machine applies a combination of both heat and pressure to adhere the printed film onto the fabric. Once cooled, the transfer can be peeled away to reveal the vibrant and high-quality print on the fabric beneath.
The dtf process also eliminates the need for weeding, which can be a tedious and time-consuming task when using vinyl or HTV, and it works on flat as well as contoured fabrics such as Thermos mugs or signboards.
